Former U.S. Under-17 international and Clearwater Charger Korey Veeder’s path since turning professional earlier this year has taken some twists and turns in a short space of time, but the 18-year-old is starting to establish himself in the Crystal Palace Baltimore line-up, making appearances in the USSF Division II club’s last three games, starting the last two.
On Saturday night Veeder picked up his first professional point, assisting on Randi Patterson’s game-winning goal as the Eagles defeated the Portland Timbers 2-1 to stay in third place in the NASL Conference.
“It’s been good, it’s been really good,” Veeder said. “We obviously had a bad start to the season, but I think we’re playing really well. We just need to find a way to finish, but other than that people have been playing really well, we’ve been training really well.”
While it appears the plan remains for Veeder to join Baltimore’s parent club in London, England, Veeder himself expects to complete the season with the Eagles before any type of move is considered. The youngest player on the roster, learning to be in a professional environment is something he is enjoying greatly as he learns from his older teammates.
“It’s a real honor, training with the people I train with,” Veeder said. “There’s guys from England, guys from Japan, I’m learning a lot from them and hopefully I can keep playing so when I go over to England I’ll be ready for it. Hopefully I can learn more from these guys and carry it overseas with me.”
